Apple's iWork suite (Keynote, Pages and Numbers) is a great collection of apps to help improve your productivity. It does a pretty good job out of the box, but you can take it to the next level with one simple adjustment. I'm talking about customizing the toolbar. Why? Not all of us work the same way. As a result, we need toolbars that are custom for our specific needs. This is a snapshot of the default toolbar found in Pages:
Simple and straightforward. There are, however, a few features that I use all the time that I would prefer to add to the toolbar. Doing this will help improve my productivity and performance.
To customize your toolbar, go to View > Customize Toolbar...:

These are the various options and features that are available to you. The "Instant Alpha" feature, for example, is one that I use quite often, so I want to add this to my toolbar. To do this, just drag and drop the icon to the toolbar:
That's it! It's that easy. One more note. If you really mess up the toolbar or you want it reset back to the default, drag and drop the standard toolbar from the lower part of the screen to your toolbar. This will reset it back to default settings.
