How do you know when a new technology goes mainstream? When your local UPS Store starts to offer it as a service.
3D printing has been around for a while, but has had a hard time at building mainstream adoption for many years. It's finally getting there, and people are starting to see the benefit (cost reduction has certainly played a part in that as well). The service will be available in roughly 60 UPS Stores around the country. The printer that UPS will be using is the Stratasys uPrint SE Plus 3D printer (retail cost: about $19,000).
The UPS-made video below explains what 3D printing is, how it works and why they're even interested.
