I was on a flight yesterday to Boston. The flight was originally scheduled to depart at 9:30a, so I left the house early enough to get to the airport in time to park the car in long-term parking, catch the bus to the terminal and get through TSA. About 20 minutes into the drive, I happened to open Notifications Center on my iPhone only to find that Delta had sent me an alert letting me know that my flight was going to be delayed. Unfortunately for me, I was already on my way to the airport and I missed the opportunity to delay leaving the house (grrrr).
Notifications Center is great, but with a few minor tweaks, it can be even better (and when I say "better", I mean more useful and powerful). Here's how you can make your Notification Center more useful.
In the case of my delayed flight, I missed the notification because it appeared as a "banner", then quick disappeared again. Had it been set to an "alert", it would have stayed on the screen until I dismissed it, and I wouldn't have missed it.
To make this change, go to Settings > Notification Center on your iPhone or iPad. From here, scroll down until you find the app you want to adjust. Since I want to change the way Delta sends me notifications, I will choose the free Delta app.
Next, you'll adjust the settings to meet your own needs. Keep in mind that not every app needs to be configured the same way. For some of my apps, it makes sense to have the notifications appear as a banner, and for others, the alert style makes more sense.
