Apple TV Game Recommendation: Canabalt

It's Friday, and we're all (hopefully) beginning to wind up the week in preparation for the weekend. One of the great features of the new 4th generation Apple TV is the App Store. Games, utilities, news, music, sports... you name it and it's probably there (if not, then it will be shortly).

So the question I was asked yesterday... "Kevin, what is your favorite game to play on the Apple TV?" Truth be known, I'm not much of a gamer (certainly not hard-core), but I do like to play a few minutes here and there to take my mind off of a challenging project or just to relax.

Canabalt was released a while back for iPad and iPhone, and is now available for the 4th generation Apple TV. The player controls an unnamed man fleeing from an unknown threat. As the game begins, the player character jumps from the window of an office building onto the roof of a neighbouring building. He then proceeds to run forward automatically, continually accelerating as he moves. The only control the player has over the character is through a single button, which makes him jump; either from building to building or over obstacles. Missing a jump to another building will cause him to fall to his death, while colliding with a crate or an office chair will reduce his speed. Bombs are also occasionally dropped into the player's path, causing death if not avoided.

Take a look at the last round that I played:

Whether you have 2 minutes or 20 minutes to play a game, this is a great game to check out. It costs US $2.99 via the Apple TV App Store.
